Making A Difference Every Day In The Lives Of Children and Families
Curtis Segers III is a Philadelphia native who was raised in the North Philadelphia section of the city. As the oldest of three children, Curtis credits his success to his parents and the village of community members who raised him. During his youth he was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Edison High School. While many of his peers fell prey to the ills in the neighborhood, Curtis was blessed to go a different route and decided to matriculate at Cheyney University. What happened next can be summed up by the words of Malcolm X, “Education is the passport to the future for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” An HBCU college experience proved to be life changing. While earning his undergraduate degree Curtis joined Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. He graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation and Leisure Activities. He would later earn a Master of Education Degree in Special Education from Cheyney University in 2004.
Curtis has a powerful presence and is most often described as loyal, compassionate and a leader with integrity. He currently serves as an Assistant Principal for Mastery Charter School and has been a member of the Mann Elementary community in Wynnefield for 13 years. In October of 2022, Curtis received the Phi Delta Kappa International Assistant Principal of the Year Award. His prior work experience includes serving as a special education teacher where he supported the most vulnerable populations at an alternative school. It is no surprise that supporting our youth and families are amongst his top priorities.
Curtis is a married father of three. His two eldest children, Arshon & Kayla are in their senior years in college at Temple University and Howard University respectively. His youngest son, Curtis IV is preparing for high school in the fall. His wife, Jury, is a fellow educator and high school principal. They reside in the Olney section of Philadelphia and are active members at Better Way Bible Church.
Bringing people together for a common cause is one of Curtis’s strengths. He has a heart for humanity and fosters meaningful relationships. He rallies behind community service initiatives and mentoring opportunities.
Right now, our city needs change. Curtis has benefited from the best that our city has to offer. He is ready to activate his unique skills to prepare a brighter future for the residents of Philadelphia. He is not afraid of doing the hard work when no one is watching. Curtis is ready to do the hard work for the city of Philadelphia and is counting on your support to earn an At-Large seat in City Council.
